Three Women in Conversation (1985)

Three women in conversation is a bronze sculpture created by Werner-Joachim Schatz and cast by the Barth company from Rinteln , which was set up in 1985 in the Westphalian city of Ibbenbüren . The group of sculptures is located on the forecourt of the main office building of the Sparkasse Ibbenbüren (since 2002 Kreissparkasse Steinfurt ) on the corner of Bachstrasse and Am Alten Posthof.

The sculpture was created as part of a competition organized by the Sparkasse Ibbenbüren on the subject of " Communication " and presented to the population and handed over to the public on Friday May 31st, 1985.

The work shows a group of three women standing close together, engrossed in an animated conversation. All three are wrapped in blanket-like cloaks with stiff folds. They wear sturdy shoes with raised block heels and hood-like headgear. One seems to be chatting, the other is listening intently. By caricature-like overdrawing of their curious noses, their large open auricles and their tense, self-forgetting affection, the sculptor achieves an association of gossip and gossip in the viewer that makes him smile. The sculptor himself calls his sculpture Ondit , in French the rumor , and rumors are probably a common and popular means of human communication.

In form and composition - not in the statement - the artist was possibly inspired by similarly composed groups, the most famous Jacopo da Pontormo's Visitation and its adaptation by Bill Viola or Ernst Barlach's 1912 lithograph.
