The Kreissparkasse Steinfurt has existed as a Zweckverbandssparkasse since 2002. It is an amalgamation of the Sparkasse Ibbenbüren and the Sparkasse Steinfurt. With regard to its historical development, it refers to the founding of its oldest legal predecessor, the savings bank of the Tecklenburg district in Ibbenbüren in 1856 and the Burgsteinfurt district savings bank in 1857.

Foundations
In 1989 the Kulturstiftung der Sparkasse Steinfurt was brought into being, in 1991 the sports foundation of the Sparkasse Steinfurt.
