Eberhard Korndörfer

Eberhard Korndörfer (born December 14, 1926 in Oelsnitz / Vogtl. , † May 1, 2020 ) was a major general of the National People's Army (NVA) of the German Democratic Republic (GDR). He was commander of the military transport and communications section at the University of Transport (HfV) in Dresden .

Life

Korndörfer was the son of an independent master tailor. In 1944, after graduating from commercial college, he was drafted into the Reich Labor Service (RAD) and then into the Wehrmacht . In April 1945 he was taken prisoner by Anglo-American prisoners.

After his release from captivity, he completed an apprenticeship at the Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR) from 1945 to 1949 and then worked as a train supervisor and dispatcher. From 1949 to 1951 he was a clerk in the goods traffic department of the DR in Aue , from 1951 to 1952 he was an instructor and consultant to the General Director of the Deutsche Reichsbahn in Berlin . In 1952 he became a member of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED).

On March 1, 1953, Korndörfer joined the Kasernierte Volkspolizei (KVP) as an officer . From 1953 to 1955 he was head of the operation sub-department of the Dresden transport department of the KVP, and from 1955 to 1956 he was chief officer for training and operational management of the transport management KVP in Berlin. After the founding of the National People's Army in 1956, he held the same function in the transport administration at the Ministry of National Defense (MfNV) until 1959 . He was then head of department and from 1964 to 1971 deputy to the head of the military transport administration in the Ministry for National Defense of the GDR. During this time he was promoted to colonel .

On September 1, 1971, he was appointed commander of the new section "Military Transport and Communications" at the University of Transport "Friedrich List" in Dresden. The appointment was made on behalf of the Defense Minister by his deputy Lieutenant General Werner Fleissner . On the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the GDR on October 7, 1984, he was appointed major general by Erich Honecker . On August 31, 1989 Korndörfer was dismissed from active service in the NVA.
