The Dreiherrenstein near Neustall is a boundary stone in the Hessian Vogelsberg . The boundary stone erected in 1730 stands near the Oberullrichsberg homestead at the intersection of the Hintersteinau , Neustall and Holzmühl districts .

history

The stone originally marked the boundaries of the territories of the prince abbey of Fulda , the county of Hanau and the Riedesel Freiherren zu Eisenbach . The corresponding ornate coats of arms are designed on the triangular shaped stone.

When Fulda was incorporated into the Electorate of Hesse-Kassel , the County of Hanau also fell to Kassel by inheritance and the Riedeselland came to Hesse-Darmstadt , the stone only indicated two borders. Hessen-Darmstadt had become a Grand Duchy and Hessen-Kassel was annexed by Prussia in 1866 . These processes are documented on the stone by the letters KP (= Kingdom of Prussia) and GH (= Grand Duchy of Hesse ).

Today the stone marks the district boundary between Vogelsbergkreis and Main-Kinzig-Kreis in addition to the above-mentioned district boundaries . This is also the religious border between the Protestant parish Freiensteinau and the Catholic parish Ulmbach as well as the border between the dioceses of Fulda and Mainz .
