history
1771-1949
The roots of the "Dreiring-Werk" go back to the year 1771, when the merchant Georg Wilhelm Melsbach founded the "Seifenfabrik Melsbach" in Krefeld . In 1905 it relocated its production to the Krefeld Rheinhafen. In 1920 the company merged with 11 other soap companies (including “Welcker & Buhler”, “PH Schrauth”, “Welter” and “de Greiff”) to form “Dreiring-Werke KG”. In addition to the headquarters and the largest production facility in Krefeld, there were 13 other branches at that time. In 1924, Henkel & Cie. at this company.
1950-1996
1950 Henkel & Cie. first the majority in Dreiring-Werke KG and then in 1953 all limited partner shares. This created the basis for the Henkel Fragrance Center (HFC), which deals with the development of perfumes. Today, the HFC is independently located right next to the three-ring plant in the Rhine harbor in Krefeld. In 1954 Dreiring-Werke KG introduced a brand that is now world-famous, the Fa Pflege series. In 1959 the soap Ladon and the fine finish Perla are introduced, which are sold together with Fa through Henkel from 1961 .
1997-2004
On January 1, 1997, Dalli-Werke GmbH & Co.KG from the Wirtz family took over the Dreiring company . The Three Ring-Werk GmbH was founded in 2001 spun off as an independent company. The company was strategically repositioned as a contract manufacturer.
2005 until today
2005 took over M. Kappus Soap Factory GmbH & Co. , the three-ring GmbH , now three-ring-Werk GmbH & Co.KG is. The strategic direction was retained. Together with the Dreiring company , Kappus is the largest soap producer in Western Europe .
In September 2018, the Kappus group and the Krefeld three-ring plant filed for bankruptcy. 40 employees were laid off in September 2019. The final end was sealed on January 27, 2020, when the insolvency administrator published the news at a works meeting that Dreiring-Werk GmbH will cease operations and close the plant by September 30, 2020 at the latest.

In 2005 Dreiring-Werk GmbH & Co.KG has 130 employees and a production capacity of 35,000 t of basic soap per year. Sales of EUR 21.9 million were achieved in contract production. Half of the production is destined for foreign countries. 180 million pieces of soap can be produced on five high-speed lines and 60 million pieces a year on three flexible lines. The product range includes bars of fine soap in the wrapper and in folding boxes, shaving soaps, shaving creams in jars, transparent soaps, soap noodles as an intermediate product, technical soaps and washing aids.
