Dries Buytaert (born November 19, 1978 in Wilrijk ( Antwerp ), Belgium ) is a programmer of open source software and the founder and chief developer of the CMS Drupal . Buytaert defended his dissertation in computer science on January 27, 2008 at the University of Ghent in Belgium.

From 1999 to 2000 he was the maintainer of the GNU / Linux WLAN FAQ .

On December 1, 2007, Buytaert and Jay Batson announced the founding of the startup Acquia. Acquia is a commercial open source company that offers products and services related to Drupal. In 2009 Acquia was involved in the switch from Whitehouse.gov to Drupal.

On March 31, 2008, Buytaert founded Mollom, a spam suppression service. Over 15,000 websites were protected by Mollom, including all Netlog messages. On April 2, 2018, the anti-spam service Mollom was switched off and has not been available since then.

In 2008, Buytaert was named “Young Entrepreneurs of Tech” by BusinessWeek , and he was one of MIT TR 35 Young Innovators .
