Driss Basri

Driss Basri ( Arabic إدريس البصري Idrīs al-Baṣrī ; * 1938 in Settat , Morocco ; † August 27, 2007 in Paris ) was a Moroccan politician. He worked under King Hassan II from 1979 as Minister of the Interior ; King Mohammed VI sacked him five months after his accession to the throne in 1999. Basri is held responsible for numerous human rights violations during his 20-year tenure. He died in Paris in August 2007 at the age of 69 after a long illness.
