Driver: Vegas

Driver: Vegas is a racing game and the first mobile phone offshoot of the successful Driver series. It was developed by Gameloft and published by GLU Mobile in 2006.

The game principle is based on the other series parts. The player takes on the role of the undercover police officer John Tanner , who tries to smash an international gang of car smugglers. In terms of content, it follows directly on from Driv3r, which was published in 2005 and has been heavily criticized by the press .

The reception of the title was mixed; some magazines, such as IGN, gave comparatively high ratings, while others, e.g. B. GameSpot , gave exceptionally poor ratings.

action

The plot follows on from Driver 3, which ended with the protagonist Tanner being badly wounded in a shootout with the internationally wanted criminal Jericho. In Driver: Vegas, he has since survived this injury and is now trying to track down Jericho and kill him. To do this, he travels to Las Vegas and does several assignments. The plot is in the background and is only told through short video sequences.

Gameplay

The concept is similar to Driver 3. The player starts in a freely explorable environment and receives various missions. Most of the missions, e.g. B. Chases are carried out in vehicles, but there are also occasional missions that have to be covered on foot, mostly these are accompanied by shootings.

reception

The reception of the title varied. While Ryan Davis from the American magazine GameSpot strongly criticized the mobile phone implementation for control problems and a lack of variety in design, Levi Buchanan from IGN praised the game for its improved quality compared to Driver 3 and the numerous playing options for a mobile game.
