Drosera alba is a carnivorous plant of the genus sundew ( Drosera ). It is native to South Africa and wasfirst describedby Edwin Percy Phillips in 1913.

description

Drosera alba are slender, small herbaceous plants with several short roots that are slightly swollen.

The leaves near the ground in rosettes, later loosely arranged, are sessile, without stipules , dimorphic. The leaves of the rosette near the ground are inverted-lanceolate, 1 to 2 centimeters long and 4 millimeters wide. The marginal tentacles at the outer end have flattened glandular heads and are club-shaped. The upper leaves are upright, linear, about 5 centimeters long and 1.5 millimeters wide, blunt at the end, their marginal tentacles are only club-shaped.

The inflorescence arises from the rosette, the inflorescence axis is slender, without leaves and up to 13 centimeters long. At the end it bears one or more flowers , the flower stalks are around 2 centimeters long.

The sepals are fused, the individual lobes are egg-shaped and up to 3 millimeters long. The petals are white or purple and broadly inverted-egg-shaped and have a length of 7 to 10 millimeters. The stamens are short, the connective rhombic. The stylus are divided from the roots, the scars fächrig, often interwoven (in immature specimens). The capsule fruits are egg-shaped, the seeds egg-shaped.

distribution

The species is restricted to the South African Cape region in the districts of Vanrhynsdrop , Clanwilliam and Calvinia . It often occurs in association with Drosera cistiflora .
