Drosera miniata is a carnivorous plant of the genus sundew ( Drosera ). It belongs to the group of so-called dwarf sundews and is native to southwestern Australia.

description

Drosera miniata is a perennial herbaceous plant . This forms a flat, compact, rosette-shaped bud from horizontal leaves with a diameter of about 2 cm. The stem axis is very short and covered with few or no withered leaves from the preseason.

The bud of the stipules is ovate, 5 mm long and 3 mm in diameter at the base. The stipules themselves are 2.5 mm long, 2.5 mm wide and three-lobed. The middle lobe is divided into 3 segments.

The leaf blades are approximately circular, 1.7 mm long and 1.5 mm wide. The longer tentacle glands are on the edge, the shorter ones on the inside. There are some glands on the underside. The leaf stalks have a spoon-shaped outline, are up to 3.5 mm long, 0.4 mm at the base, expand to 0.7 mm up to the leaf blade and then taper abruptly to 0.5 mm. They are sausage-shaped with a rounded rib along the entire length of the upper side, somewhat covered with glands near the leaf blade and otherwise completely hairless.

Flowering time is October. The flower stem is 4.5 cm long and completely covered with tiny glands. The inflorescence is a coil of 5 to 12 flowers on approximately 2 mm long pedicels. The egg-shaped sepals are 2.5 mm long and 1.5 mm wide. The tips are notched and covered with a few cylindrical glands. The petals, which are orange (lead-red) on the upper side, with reddish veins, are lighter and more pink on the underside, cello-shaped, 10 mm long, 6 mm wide at the top, 5 mm in the middle and taper to 4 mm at the base . The base of the petals forms a wedge-shaped, black-brown finger 1 mm in length.

The five stamens are 2 mm long. The threads and the anthers are white, the pollen yellow. The black-brown ovary is shell-shaped, 0.5 mm long, 1 mm in diameter and papilose . The 3 also dark brown, horizontally elongated stylus are 2-3 mm long, whip-like, cylindrical and taper evenly to the top. The scars are also black-brown and simply shaped.

The formation of brood scales is typical of dwarf sundews : The elliptical, 0.6 mm thick brood scales are formed in large numbers from late November to early December and are approx. 1 mm long and 0.7 mm wide.

Distribution of Drosera miniata in Australia

Distribution, habitat and status

Drosera miniata occurs only on a small area in the extreme southwest of Australia. The plant thrives there on laterite and clay soils or on loam in pools in front of granite outcrops in open forest or heathland.

Known populations are found at Gidgegannup , Toodyay, and York, Western Australia .

Systematics

The name "miniata" comes from Latin and means "the tiny one" (minimus = tiny).
