Drosera whittakeri is a carnivorous plant in the genus sundew ( Drosera ). It is native to southern Australia.
description
The plants grow from an orange, round and up to one centimeter thick tuber in a native rosette and reach a diameter of up to 8 centimeters. The spatulate leaves turn reddish in color as the plant ages. Subterranean runners can form, from which new plants of this species can then grow. In June / July there are white, terminal single flowers on the up to 4 flower stalks, which are very large in relation to the plant.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 28.
Distribution area
The species is native to South Australia around Adelaide . The locations are all on different sandy or loamy gravel soils between small bushes or in open forests.
Systematics
The species was first described in 1848 by Jules Émile Planchon . In 2008 the species Drosera aberrans (previously subspecies) and Drosera praefolia (synonym) were delimited .
