Druid's Circle (Cumbria)
Druid's Circle (also known as Sunbrick or Birkrigg Common) is a stone circle south of Ulverston overlooking the village of Bardsea, the Ulverston Sands and Morcambe Bay in Cumbria , England . There are several stone circles with this name in the British Isles ( Druid's Circle (Conwy) ).
The concentric stone circle , probably from the Bronze Age , originally consisted of a double stone ring, which was probably separated by a ditch.
The outer ring, around 26.0 m in diameter, had 15 stones, which have now fallen over and scattered, while the 10 stones of the inner ring, 9 m in diameter, are still upright. The circle was damaged several times and rebuilt. None of the stones reaches a height of one meter.
In the center of the remains of five cremations were including one in a collar urn ( English Collared urnoutlier ) found which is now in Carlisle Museum.
Druid's Circle on Alderley Edge in Cheshire , England is a stone circle replica from the 18th century.
