Housing from Drupa morum

Drupa morum is the name of a snail from the family of whelks , in the Indo-Pacific is widespread and extends from Vielborstern family Eunicidae malnourished.

features

The thick-walled, spherical shell of Drupa morum , which in adult snails reaches a length of about 4 cm, has a flat base, a low thread, a large body circumference and a narrow housing mouth. The perimeter is sculptured with four spiral rows of large conical knots and a front spiral rib with lower knots. There is a prickly anterior fasciole. Fine spiral cords run between the rows of knots. The outer lip of the case mouth is finely serrated and has two fused teeth in the middle and two individual teeth at the front, as well as four fused teeth at the back. The spindle has three or four strong folds. The front channel of the snail shell is short and narrow, the rear a long shallow channel. The surface of the shell is yellow-brown to white, the knots black or brown, the inside of the case mouth dark purple.

distribution and habitat

Drupa morum is widespread in the Indo-Pacific from the East African and South African coasts of KwaZulu-Natal eastward to Western Australia and Queensland , where it can be found on rocky subsoil in the intertidal zone.

Life cycle

Like other spiny snails, Drupa morum is segregated with internal fertilization. From the egg capsules deposited after mating, similar to Drupa ricinus, distinctly teleplane, large Veliger larvae hatch, which, due to their long-lived stage as zooplankton, contribute to the widespread distribution of the species in the Indo-Pacific.

nutrition

Drupa morum feeds as a predator snail mainly by Vielborstern family Eunicidae .
