Jan Mohammed Chan
Dschan Mohammed Chan († July 17, 2011 in Kabul ) was an Afghan politician . He was considered a close advisor to Hamid Karzai and was governor of Urusgan Province from 2002 to 2006 .
Chan was a Pashtun and a member of the Popalzai tribe. He was the leader of a private militia that was a significant power factor in Uruzgan.

On July 17, 2011, he was killed in an attack lasting several hours on his property in Kabul. Two men armed with explosive vests and firearms were involved. The Taliban took responsibility for this. The attack took place on the day when security responsibility was handed over (“transition”) from ISAF to the government in Kabul. In addition to Chan, the MP Mohammed Aschim Watanwal , a member of the Afghan anti-terrorist unit and both assassins , died in the attack .
