Dschansur ( Arabic جَنْزُور, DMG ǧanzūr ) or Sansur , is a coastal city in northwest Libya. It is located in the west of the Libyan capital Tripoli , and east of Az-Zawiya . The city can be counted to the metropolitan region of Tripoli and is connected to it via the two-lane, motorway-like coastal road.
history
The German private scholar and research traveler Heinrich von Maltzan wrote in his book " Journey to the Regencies of Tunis and Tripoli " that Dschansur derives its name from the Latin Assaria (Ansaria, Azzaria).
“Actual ruins are not found in the entire 10-mile stretch of land from Tripoli to Soagha. But since, according to Peutinger's table, there were two stations on it, those traces of antiquity which I think I discover in Sansur may justify the assumption that they belonged to one of the two. Now the said table gives us a name Ansaria at the distance from Oea, which corresponds to that from Tripoli to Sansur, that is, 13 miliaria west of it, in whose name we can easily recognize the present name Sansur. So I propose this identification for the Ansaria that is always searched for in vain. "
