DualSense

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

DualSense is the name of the gamepads included in the scope of delivery of the PlayStation 5 , which is to be released in the Christmas season 2020. The DualSense wireless controllers are products of the PlayStation brand , are distributed by Sony Interactive Entertainment and are a further development of the DualShock series used to date . The controller, which can be used wirelessly via Bluetooth , should, among other things, be characterized by adaptive shoulder buttons and improved vibration motors, which ensure more sensitive haptic feedback . The DualSense wireless controller was first announced on April 7, 2020 in a post by Hideaki Nishino, Vice President Platform Planning & Management, on the official PlayStation Blog.

design

The DualSense wireless controller is visually different from the models in the DualShock series thanks to its two-tone design in black and white for the first time and an ergonomically designed, rounded housing. For example, the handles have been widened, which now also have a concave shape, and the angles of the shoulder buttons known as hand triggers have been changed. The new design has been tested by numerous players with different hand sizes in order to enable a high level of comfort when playing for the broadest possible audience.

Other design changes
  • The touchpad in the middle of the controller is larger and has the shape of a trapezoid .
  • The light bar is no longer on the front, but to the left and right of the touchpad.
  • The four main buttons, the X or cross button, square, circle and triangle are no longer color-coded.
  • The PS button on the top is shaped like the PlayStation logo.

technology

The DualSense wireless controllers are technically a further development of the DualShock 4. The improved functions include:

  • Vibration motors
By using new vibration motors, the haptic feedback should be significantly improved and the player should experience greater immersion . For example, the feeling of driving a car through mud.
  • Adaptive triggers
The shoulder buttons R2 and L2 can be set so that they offer different resistance depending on the intended use and the force required for an action can be felt. For example, the use of firearms or bows and arrows in a game should feel “more real”.
  • speaker
The loudspeakers built into the DualSense wireless controller are said to have improved sound quality.
  • battery pack
A larger battery is installed, which increases the weight of the controller compared to the DualShock 4. For the first time, USB-C is used as the charging port .
New function
  • microphone
A microphone is now also built into the controller . This, together with the existing loudspeaker, makes it possible to communicate with other players online without using an external headset . A connection is still possible using a jack plug and the built-in microphone can be muted.
  • Create button
The Share button of the DualShock 4 is being replaced by a Create button, which should provide additional functionality.
