Duarte Nuno Queiroz de Barros da Cunha (born June 1, 1968 ) is a Portuguese theologian . He is general secretary of the Council of European Bishops' Conferences (CCEE) .

Life

Duarte da Cunha studied Catholic theology and pastoral theology at the Catholic University of Portugal (UCP) in Lisbon . In 1993 he was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Lisbon . He then studied at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome doctoral studies and was in 1998 with the thesis on Thomas Aquinas to Dr. theol. PhD . From 1997 to 2000 he was, among other things, Secretary General of the Patriarch of Lisbon .

From 2000 to 2004 he was Professor of Social Doctrine of the Church in the Faculty of Human Sciences and Professor of Faith and Theology in the Theological Faculty of the Catholic University of Portugal. From 2002 to 2005 he was President of the Commission for the Establishment of the Institute for Family Studies at the UCP. From 2002 to 2005 he taught ecclesiology , fundamental theology , eschatology and mariology as a visiting professor at the Catholic seminary of East Timor in Southeast Asia .

Da Cunha was elected General Secretary of the Council of European Bishops' Conferences (CCEE) on October 1, 2008, succeeding Aldo Giordano .

Act

Duarte da Cunha published numerous scientific papers on Thomas Aquinas as well as on topics of the family and social ethics .

In 1998 he founded the private association “Ponto de Apoio à Vida” to help women during pregnancy. Since 1998 he has been the pastor of the private institution “Ajuda de Berço”, which takes care of outcast children.

He is a member of the Scientific Society of the Catholic University of Portugal and the Supreme Council of the Society for the History of Portuguese Independence.

Da Cunha is fluent in Italian, English, French and Spanish.
