The Ducati ST 2 is a sports touring motorcycle from the Italian manufacturer Ducati, founded in 1926 and based in the Bolognese suburb of Borgo Panigale. Ducati has been a subsidiary of Audi AG since July 19, 2012 . The Ducati ST 2 was built from 1997 to 2003, the design comes from Miguel Galluzzi (Cagiva Morizone).
History and technology
In 1995 Ducati was in a financial crisis. Production figures fell from 21,000 in 1995 to 12,500 in 1996. Ducati was taken over by the US investment company TPG Capital (Texas Pacific Group) that year. At this point in time, the state of development of the ST 2 was already very advanced. The ST 2 was first presented in Cologne in 1996, but the start of production was postponed due to the financial crisis. It was important for TGP to cover new market segments. Thanks to the existing technology, development was easy, so that production of the ST 2 started in April 1997. This year, 2157 ST 2 were built. The Ducati ST 2 was Ducati's first touring motorcycle since the Ducati 907 IE was discontinued in 1992.
The motorcycle frame consisted of a tubular space frame (ALS-450), a 43 mm telescopic fork from Showa was used at the front , the spring preload, rebound and compression damping adjustable; the suspension travel was 130 mm. The rear wheel was guided in a two-arm steel swing arm with a progressive central spring strut with 148 mm travel. The steering head angle was 66 °, the caster 102 mm. The rim and tire sizes were 3.50 x 17, 120/70 ZR 17 at the front and 5.50 x 17, 170/60 ZR 17 at the rear.
