history
Duferco was founded in 1979 by the Italian Bruno Bolfo and a few others. His goal was to export steel from Brazil worldwide. In 1982 the company moved its headquarters from New York and São Paulo to Lugano. Initially only active in steel trading , Duferco expanded its activities in the early 1990s to include raw materials trading , in particular with raw materials for the steel industry such as coke , coal , iron ore , scrap , pig iron and sponge iron .
With the takeover of the Italian Ferdofin Siderurgica (later renamed Duferdofin ) in 1996 , Duferco entered steel production. The company later acquired additional steelworks, particularly in Italy, Belgium and Eastern Europe.
After the turn of the millennium , Duferco diversified its activities, among other things, by entering the fields of energy, shipping and logistics.
