The chicory Mode AG based in Dietikon is a Swiss fashion store chain . It operates 164 branches in Switzerland. The offer includes clothes , accessories and shoes of own brands and is aimed at young women. Chicory employs around 750 people and generated sales of 159 million Swiss francs in 2019.

history

The company was founded in 1982 by Jörg Weber. This began with the import of jeans from Italy . Later he built up his first own collection , which he sold to multi-label dealers. In 1985 Weber opened his first own shop under the name Chicorée . After the turn of the millennium, the company began a strong expansion phase. The branch network was gradually increased from 23 locations in 2000 to over 150 stores. In March 2013 the company added shoes to its range of products .

criticism

In 2010, the non-governmental organization Declaration of Bern compared the standards of working conditions in production countries by means of surveys and internet research at 77 fashion labels. Chicory was classified in the worst “refuser” category out of five categories.
