The Dukenburgsebrug is one of four road bridges over the Maas-Waal Canal in the Dutch municipality of Nijmegen . It connects the districts of Nijmegen-Midden and Dukenburg.
history
In the course of a construction wave in the 1970s , three road bridges were to be built over the Maas-Waal Canal. In addition to the Graafsebrug and Hatertsebrug , which were both renewed in this context, a bridge was built for the first time at the site of the Dukenburgsebrug. It was built in 1973 by the construction company Dubbers from Malden . A request from the Nijmeegse SP parliamentary group to name the bridge after Nelson Mandela was rejected by the local council in 1990. In 2007 the bridge was raised by 38 centimeters so that larger container ships can use the canal.
