Dulat Agadil

Dulat Agadil ( Russian Дулат Агадил , scientific transliteration Dulat Agadil ; born February 16, 1977 in Shangeldi ; † February 25, 2020 in Nur-Sultan ) was a Kazakh activist and civil rights activist.

Career

Agadil completed his school career in Kazakhstan with the Abitur. In 2007 Agadil moved to Talapker , where he became politically active for the first time and was significantly involved in the development and development of the village. As a result, Agadil campaigned for civil rights and more freedoms in authoritarian Kazakhstan. He fought in the opposition against the government, which also led to the resignation of Nursultan Nazarbayev in March 2019 . Agadil was arrested several times during demonstrations, most recently in November and December 2019. In November, Agadil managed to escape from custody. In December, he caused a medical emergency by swallowing nails and screws and was released from custody.

On February 24, 2020, Agadil was arrested in Nur-Sultan after failing to appear in court for questioning. He died a few hours later in police custody. The interior ministry named heart problems as the cause of death, according to the death certificate an "acute cardiovascular collapse", but this is doubted by supporters of Agadil. About 1000 of his followers attended Agadil's funeral in his hometown of Talapker.
