Dumitru Manea (born December 7, 1948 in Cernica ; † May 30, 2011 ) was a Romanian football player .

Athletic career

Manea moved up in 1965 to the competition team of Steaua Bucharest , for which he played in Divizia A until 1970 . After a year-long detour to the second division Metalul Târgovişte in Divizia B , he joined Sportul Studențesc in 1972 . In 1976 he played three international matches for the Romanian national team , including the final second leg in November for the Balkan Cup 1973/76 against Bulgaria . Despite the 3-2 success, the team finished the tournament after the 0-1 away defeat due to the away goals rule only in second place.

After the end of his active career in 1979, in which he had scored five goals in 196 league games, Manea took over coaching duties in the youth division of Sportul Studenţesc. Later he coached various lower-class teams before he was responsible for various junior selections of the national association Federația Română de Fotbal as a selection coach .

In the spring of 2011, Manea died at the age of 62 from complications from a heart attack . His daughter Oana Manea is a successful handball player who, among other things , won the EHF Champions League with CSM Bucharest at club level and succeeded on the international stage with the Romanian national handball team .
