Duncan P. Ferguson

Duncan P. Ferguson (born January 1, 1901 in Shanghai , † April 29, 1974 in Santa Monica ) was an American sculptor.

Ferguson was a son of the theologian and university founder John Calvin Ferguson (1866-1945). He began sculpting in the mid-1920s, teaching it at Louisiana State University in the 1930s . In the 1940s he joined the US Trotskyist Socialist Workers Party . In 1943 he created a bust of Leon Trotsky , and he spent 1944 on behalf of the party in Mexico to support Trotsky's widow Natalia Sedova .

Ferguson died in California in 1974 after a long illness. His written papers are in the Archives of American Art at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington .
