Dunky Wright

Dunky Wright (actually Duncan MacLeod Wright; born September 22, 1896 in Glasgow ; † August 21, 1976 ibid.) Was a British marathon runner .

In 1923, on his debut, he won a marathon run by the Aberdeenshire Harriers in 3:13:13 h. In 1924 he won the Polytechnic Marathon in 2:53:18 h and thus qualified for the Olympic Games in Paris , in whose marathon he did not reach the finish line. A month later, he won the Sporting Chronicle Marathon in 2:36:25 hours, where the distance was about 500 m too short.

In 1925 he finished third at the Polytechnic in 2:42:29 and defended his title at the Sporting Chronicle, which finished second in 1926.

In 1928, after a second place in the English Championship in 2:38:09 h, he was called into the squad for the Olympic Games in Amsterdam and came in 20th there. In 1930 he was English champion in 2:38:30 and won for Scotland starting at the British Empire Games in Hamilton . In 1931 he defended his English championship title.

The following year he was English runner-up in 2:34:34. At the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, he came in fourth with his personal best of 2:32:41. In 1934 he won the Polytechnic for the second time and won the bronze medal at the British Empire Games in London . In 1935 he was second and in 1936 third in the Polytechnic, in 1937 ninth in the English championship.

In 1946, at the age of almost 50, he was Scottish runner-up and fifth in the English championship.
