description

Dunluce could be a design by Alexander Thomson , but it probably came from his partner Robert Turnbull . The villa, built from 1875 to 1876, has features of Greek and Egyptian architecture that are typical of Thomson's work. The front of the two-story building faces the street and thus faces north. It is constructed symmetrically with three vertical window axes. The slightly protruding, elongated triplet windows on the ground floor are separated from each other by blind pillars and by a cornice aboveconnected along the facade. A pair of pillars frames the central entrance area. On the upper floor there is a triple window above the entrance and two outer twin windows, which are designed analogously to those on the ground floor. The building ends with a flat, slate-covered tent roof . At the rear, a flatter wing connects to the main wing. The adjacent Villa Woodend to the east was also planned by Thomson and has similar architectural features.
