Dupatta ( Hindi : दुपट्टा, dupaṭṭā; Urdu : دوپٹا, also chunri , chunni , unni ) is a veil in the style of a 2 m long and 1 m wide shawl that is used by women in many countries in South Asia , especially India and Pakistan , worn as part of the Salwar Kamiz (also Punjabi ).

Traditionally, the dupatta is worn over the head outside the home so that it covers both shoulders. However, it can also be used as a cape . It is stored in the house. Wearing a dupatta scarf has now become part of Indian fashion (see Lehanga ), with it being thrown over one or both shoulders. Sometimes it is also draped around the head as sun or dust protection. However, it is criticized as a makeshift mask for the current COVID-19 pandemic.
