The Durham Bulls are a minor league - baseball team from Durham , North Carolina , which in the International League plays (IL) in the South Division. The Bulls are currently the level AAA minor league team of the Tampa Bay Rays and play their home games in the 10,000-seat Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
history
The Bulls were founded in 1902 as Durham Tobbaconists. Due to participation in different leagues, the name changed several times in its history. The Bulls' name only persisted in 1980. Over time, the Bulls joined many different MLB teams as a farm team, including the New York Yankees and, for a long time, the Detroit Tigers , before being subordinate to the Tampa Bay Rays since 1998 .
The Bulls were champions 13 times in their history, but only four times in the currently relevant International League , the last time they succeeded in 2013. In 2014 they became South Division Champion and qualified again for the semi-finals. There you switched off the record champion, the Columbus Clippers with 3-1 wins. Only in the final did they lose in a close series with 2: 3 victories to the Pawtucket Red Sox .
In 2015 and 2016, they finished second and third in the South Division and thus missed the play-offs.
