The Columbus Clippers are a minor league baseball team from Columbus , Ohio, which plays in the International League (IL) in the West Division. The Clippers are currently the level AAA minor league team of the Cleveland Indians and play their home games in Huntington Park in Columbus, which can hold around 10,000 spectators.

history

The Columbus Clippers were founded in 1977. Over the years you have been a farm team for various MLB teams, including that of the New York Yankees for almost three decades . Since 2009 they are subordinate to the Cleveland Indians .

The Clippers are together with the Rochester Red Wings the most successful team in the International League. Both teams have won 10 championships each. However, the Clippers are the only team in league history to win the championship three times in a row (1979, 1980 and 1981).

Columbus is among the 100 richest Major League Baseball teams valued at $ 41 million, according to a report by business magazine Forbes.

The 1992 Clippers team was also voted one of the 100 best in league history by the MiLB.com website. That year they became both division winners and champions of the International League. A certain Bernie Williams , a little later multiple World Series winner with the New York Yankees , was in the squad at the time.

Stadion

Huntington Park was inaugurated in 2009 and has 10,100 seats. It is mainly used by the clippers. According to information, the new building cost 70 million US dollars.
