The Gwinnett Braves are a minor league baseball team from Lawrenceville, Georgia in Atlanta that plays in the International League (IL) in the South Division. The Braves have been a Level AAA minor league team of the Atlanta Braves since they were founded in 2009 and play their home games at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, which has a capacity of around 11,000.
history
The Gwinnett Braves were founded in 2009. They emerged from the Richmond Braves, who moved from Richmond to Gwinnett in 2008. They have been the Atlanta Braves' farm team since their inception.
In the past 2016 season, the Braves won the division title in the South Division and were even able to advance into the final. In the Best-of-5 series, however, the Braves lost 3-1 to the Scranton / Wilkes-Barre RailRiders .
In 2018, the Braves plan to change their team name to be more associated with the Gwinnett County area. A public survey should help find a suitable name for the franchise .

Stadion
The Braves play at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, which was built in 2009 and has 10,427 seats.
Originally estimated at $ 40 million, the stadium would cost $ 64 million when completed. The sharp increase in planned costs is associated with the fact that the building planners could not keep to the schedule they had set, which is why the stadium could only be inaugurated a year and a half later than planned.
Coolray Field is owned by Gwinnett County, so the Braves are just renters. The annual rental cost is $ 250,000. Gwinnett County also receives $ 1 per ticket sold by the Braves.
The first game was played on April 17, 2009 between the Gwinnett Braves and the Norfolk Tides, which the Tides won 7-4. Braves player Barbaro Canizares scored the first home run in the newly built stadium .
