Durlston Country Park is a 1.13 square kilometer (280 acres) nature landscape park and conservation area and extends along the coast of the Isle of Purbeck .

Durlston Bay and Durlston Country Park are south of Swanage on the English Channel on the Isle of Purbeck. The area belongs to the county of Dorset on the south coast of England . The park is about 12 km south of the large towns of Poole and Bournemouth .

In 1887 George Burt built a small castle on the Durlston Head hill above Swanage. He also had the Great Globe built , a 40-tonne globe, three meters in diameter, on which the world map is engraved as of 1880.

The Swanage Lighthouse was built on the Anvil Point rock in 1880 . George Burt opened the Tilly Whim Caves in 1887 as a tourist attraction for his Durlston manor.

Swanage has a long history of quarrying along the cliffs to the south. Many of the quarry entrances and loading points from these quarries are now visible within Durlston Country Park. The quarries were the largest suppliers of Portland limestone and Purbeck stone . Durlston Country Park is part of the Jurassic Coast , which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site .
