Xavier Durringer (born December 1, 1963 in Paris ) is a French playwright , screenwriter and film director .

Life

Xavier Durringer began his career in Cergy-Pontoise about 30 kilometers northwest of Paris. His often very private pieces are shown very often there at Théâtre 95 . His first pieces ( Bal-Trap , Eine Mordswut im Hals , La Quille ) play with a garish language in a chaotic, amorous reality. Since 1988 he has directed the independent theater group La Lézarde (Eng .: “The Riss”) for which he writes and directs . With the play Wellenreiter (Surfeurs) , Durringer conquered the Avignon Festival in 1998. Since then his pieces have been performed on all major stages across Europe. With his best-known plays such as Whole Days, All Nights , Cut into the Meat , Bal-Trap and Die Gelobte , he is now one of the most famous and successful contemporary playwrights in France.

Durringer's pieces clearly show current political and social conflicts in his homeland. He is particularly concerned with the people in the satellite towns , who can no longer find their way in life, and the potential for violence in the Parisian suburbs, which not least moved the media internationally at the end of 2005. The play languages of French youth, Argot and Verlan , are an essential part of his works. Durringer always seeks local proximity to his subjects, so he often performs his pieces in abandoned factory grounds in the banlieues of Paris. Another example is the German-language premiere of Whole Days, Whole Nights, which was not played in a theater, but at the Erlangen train station.

In 1993 Durringer made his first feature film La nage indienne with Karin Viard in the lead role, who was nominated for a César for Best Young Actress. After J'irai au paradis car l'enfer est ici (1997), which was shown at the AFI Los Angeles Festival and was the official selection at the San Sebastian, Namur, London, Montreal, Court-Mayeur and Acapulco festivals, Durringer realized the two television films Les vilains (1999), which won an award at the 1st Festival de la fiction des Saint-Tropez, and the ARTE-France co-production Escape through the jungle (2002). The last time Chok Dee - Fight for Your Dream (2005) was seen in French cinemas, while the TV film Don’t give flowers (Lady Bar) (2006) was a great success, so Durringer 2008 the sequel The Monkey gives the Buddha Honey (Lady Bar 2) finished.
