Dustin Glenn Poirier (* 19th January 1989 in Lafayette , Louisiana ) is an American mixed martial arts fighter in the lightweight of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

In June 2019 he was 8th in the UFC pound-for-pound ranking .

Life

Dustin Glenn Poirier grew up in his native Lafayette. He belongs to the Cajun population . He attended Northside High School and later moved to South Florida for training with his wife, with whom he has a daughter.

Poirier has been a professional since 2009. He started with a record of 7 to 0 wins. In 2010 he took part in the World Extreme Cagefighting . In 2011 he was the subject of the documentary Fightville, which dealt with MMA in the southern states.

In the UFC, he beat Max Holloway, Eddie Alvarez , Justin Gaethje and Anthony Pettis.

Charity

Poirier auctioned his own sportswear on eBay , including $ 5,000 for the US Second Harvest Food Bank. In April 2018 he founded the Good Fight Foundation. In 2018 he collected donations for the family of a deceased policeman. From another auction he bought 500 school bags for children from his hometown.
