Dwyka is a rural scattered settlement in the province of Western Cape in South Africa . It is located not far from the N1 national road . The community belongs to the Central Karoo District and is located in the Prince Albert Local Municipality .
population
The population is around 100 people.
geography
The village is located in the southern part of the Karoo and is touched by the river Dwyka of the same name . Due to the geological conditions of the Karoo plain, the landscape is very dry and therefore not suitable for arable farming and partially suitable for cattle breeding. Only in the canyons and river valleys is there any noteworthy vegetation. South Africa has improved the livelihoods of the population in this region with extensive water supply projects.
The Dwyka Canyon of the river of the same name finds a certain tourist interest . In its lower reaches, south of the village of Dwyka, there is the Gamkapoort dam when it meets the Gamka River . It is framed by a steep mountain landscape with very little rainfall.
The settlement is located near a railway bridge on which the Dwyka is crossed. There is a breakpoint.
geology
The name was transferred from the river or the settlement to an important geological sediment group within the Karoo supergroup . These are mainly conglomerate sediments from the inland glaciation of the former Gondwana continent .
