Dynasty of palaeologists
The dynasty of the paleologists ( Greek Παλαιολόγεια Δυναστεία ) is a trilogy of novels by Giorgos Leonardos about the paleologists , the last ruling dynasty of the Byzantine Empire . Leonardos received the highest national literary award in Greece for the work in 2008.
The individual books and their titles
The trilogy consists of the following historical novels :
- Michael VIII. Palaiologos (Μιχαήλ Η Παλαιολόγος, 2004, ISBN 960-14-0998-X ), a fictional biography of Michael VIII from the catastrophe of the Fourth Crusade to the Sicilian Vespers
- The paleologists (Οι Παλαιολόγοι, 2006, ISBN 960-14-1206-9 ) on the civil wars under the paleologic dynasty
- The last palaeologist (τ τελευταίος Παλαιολόγος, 2007, ISBN 978-960-14-1644-1 ) on Constantine XI. Palaiologos, the last emperor of Byzantium, and the fall of Constantinople
The trilogy is supplemented by a fourth novel Sophia Palaiologa (Σοφία Παλαιολογίνα, 2008, ISBN 978-960-14-1836-0 ). Sophia Palaiologa was the last descendant of the family of palaeologists and the wife of the Russian ruler Ivan III.
