The EA02 locomotive is an electric battery locomotive operating on the Dresden Park Railway .
The locomotive consists of two parts. It can pull up to eight cars on the park railway and works there almost every day. It is driven by electric motors that are located on each bogie . These get their energy from four battery trays with 60 cells each and a total weight of 3.2 t. The accumulators are charged at night and provide enough electrical energy for an entire day of operation.
history
The locomotive was specially designed in 1982 for its intended use on a Liliputbahn and built in the Reichsbahnausbesserungswerk Dresden of the Deutsche Reichsbahn in the GDR . The vehicle was after its construction in 1982 the park train along with new car for a fourth train passed. At the time, this was necessary to cover the high number of passengers on the pioneering railway at the time and to relieve the steam locomotives .
The locomotive was shut down at the turn of the millennium due to technical defects. There was a fundraising campaign to convert the locomotive into a diesel locomotive . Since this failed and it was unclear whether an operating license would be obtained for a diesel locomotive in the Great Garden , a park in the center of Dresden, it was decided to refurbish the locomotive and keep it as an electric battery locomotive. The locomotive was repainted blue from its original red color in 2004.
