The eSport Bundesliga (short eSportBL ) was an E-Sport -Liga that the eSport belonged Bundesligen operating and marketing GmbH. It was the unofficial successor to the World League eSport Bundesliga , which ended its game operations after the bankruptcy of ESBL GmbH. The official competition game of the eSport Bundesliga was FIFA . The eSport Bundesliga gained notoriety through reporting on German sports television , now Sport1 , and on MTV . The 18th civil chamber of the Frankfurt am Main regional court issued an injunction against the use of the eSport Bundesliga logo on April 22, 2009, as it contained partial similarities to protected trademarks. As a result, the league was stopped and the website was taken offline. Following a legal dispute with UEFA , the league management announced on August 14, 2009 that it would no longer be possible to start playing until further notice for economic reasons.

The league structure of the eSport Bundesliga was based on the DFL mode . The first three of a season from the 1st Bundesliga qualified for the eSport Champions League . The last three were relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga. From the 2nd Bundesliga, the first three were promoted to the 1st Bundesliga. Four teams relegated from the 2nd Bundesliga to the regional leagues North and South, each of which provided two promoted teams for the 2nd Bundesliga. In each of the eight major leagues, four players were relegated from the two regional leagues. The eight free places were occupied by the eight promoted players from the major leagues.

eSport Bundesliga patch

A patch was used in the eSport Bundesliga that enables all players on the field to have the same skills. In addition, the players of the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga could be selected in FIFA 07 . Since the second season, the eSport Bundesliga has been played with the patch in every league.

Competition mode

The game days of the 1st Bundesliga were initially played on Saturdays in Berlin's CineStar Original on Potsdamer Platz . The games were played in a cinema as well as in the foyer of the CineStar Original. Since the end of television broadcasts in 2008, all top division and lower division games have been played over the Internet.
