Earl of Lytton
Earl of Lytton , of Lytton in the County of Derby , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .
The Earls family residence is Knebworth House near Knebworth in Hertfordshire .
Award
The title was created on April 28, 1880 for Robert Bulwer-Lytton, 2nd Baron Lytton . He had previously been Governor General and Viceroy of India .
Subordinate title
Together with the earliest title, he was awarded the title Viscount Knebworth , of Knebworth in the County of Hertford , who also belongs to the Peerage of the United Kingdom. It is used as a courtesy title by the title heir .
As early as 1873, the 1st Earl had received from his father Edward Bulwer-Lytton , who was a well-known member of parliament and a writer, the title Baronet , of Knebworth, conferred on him on July 18, 1838 , and the title Baron Lytton , conferred on him on July 14, 1866 , of Knebworth in the County of Hertford. These titles belong to the Baronetage or Peerage of the United Kingdom.
The 4th Earl, Noel Lytton , inherited in 1957 from his mother Judith Blunt-Lytton, 16th Baroness Wentworth , the title Baron Wentworth , created in the Peerage of England in 1529 , which has since also been a subordinate title of the respective earl.
