John Lytton, 5th Earl of Lytton

John Peter Michael Scawen Lytton, 5th Earl of Lytton DL (born June 7, 1950 ) is a British peer , politician and real estate expert. Between 1951 and 1985 he held the courtesy title Viscount Knebworth .

life and career

John Lytton is the eldest son of Noel Lytton, 4th Earl of Lytton and Clarissa Mary Palmer, and thus a descendant of Lord Byron . After attending the Downside School in Bath , he studied at the University of Reading and graduated in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science in Building Management. After graduating, he worked for the British Inland Revenue for 13 years and for a few more years for the real estate company Permutt Brown & Co. and Cubitt & West . In January 1988 he founded his own company, Lytton & Co., Chartered Surveyors, which he still runs to this day. He is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (a professional trade association for real estate agents) and member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (a professional trade association for arbitrators and mediators ) .John Lytton gives talks about his famous ancestor Lord Byron and one of the chairmen of the International Byron Society .

When his father died in 1985, he inherited his title of nobility (as 5th Earl of Lytton , 5th Viscount Knebworth , 6th Baron Lytton , 18th Baron Wentworth and 6th Baronet (of Knebworth) ). He initially lost his seat in the House of Lords after the House of Lords Act 1999 , but was able to return there as an elected member in 2011. Today he is an independent candidate, a so-called crossbencher . In October 2011 he was appointed Deputy Lieutenant of West Sussex .

family

John Lytton married Ursula Alexandra Komoly, daughter of Anton Theodore Komoly, in 1980. They have three children together:

  • Katrina Mary Noel Lytton

In 1984 Lytton inherited the Newbuildings Place estate in West Sussex from his aunt, where he and his family still live to this day. The Lyttons family home, Knebworth House in Hertfordshire , is run by his cousin.
