Earl of Rochester was a hereditary title of nobility awarded twice in the Peerage of England .

Awards and subordinate titles

The title was first created on December 13, 1652 for the politician Henry Wilmot, 2nd Viscount Wilmot . He had already been raised to Baron Wilmot , of Adderbury in the County of Oxford , on June 29, 1643, also in the Peerage of England, and in 1644 inherited the title of Viscount Wilmot , of Athlone , from his father January 1621 was awarded in the Peerage of Ireland . The titles expired on the death of his grandson, the 3rd Earl, on November 12, 1681.

In the second award, the title was on November 29, 1682 the First Lord of the Treasury Laurence Hyde, 1st Viscount Hyde of Kenilworth , bestowed. As early as April 24, 1681 he was raised to Viscount Hyde of Kenilworth , of Kenilworth in the County of Warwick , and Baron Wotton Basset . His son, the 2nd Earl, inherited the title of 4th Earl of Clarendon , 4th Viscount Cornbury and 4th Baron Hyde of Hindon when his relative Edward Hyde, 3rd Earl of Clarendon died in 1723 . All of his titles expired when he died on December 10, 1753, leaving no heirs.
