Earl of Torrington , in the County of Devon , was a hereditary British title in the Peerage of England .

Awards

The title was first bestowed on July 7, 1660, to the English politician and military officer George Monck , along with the parent title Duke of Albemarle and the subsidiary titles Baron Monck , of Potheridge in the County of Devon, Baron Beauchamp , of Beauchamp in the County of Devon, and Baron Teyes , of Teyes in the County of Devon. The titles expired on the childless death of his son, the 2nd Duke, on October 6, 1688.

In the second bestowal, the title was recreated for Arthur Herbert on May 29, 1689 , along with the subordinate title Baron Herbert of Torbay , in the County of Devon. The titles expired on his death on April 14, 1716.
