East Suffolk as an administrative county (1888–1974)

East Suffolk is an area in the English county of Suffolk , which had the status of an administrative county ( English Administration County ) from 1888 to 1974 . The administrative seat was in Ipswich.

When the administrative counties were introduced in 1888, the traditional county of Suffolk was divided into three separate areas, East Suffolk and West Suffolk, and Ipswich as a county borough . However, this was reversed with the local government reform in 1974 . Internally, East Suffolk was divided into Municipal Boroughs and Urban and Rural Districts .

Since April 2019, East Suffolk has existed again as an administrative unit, now as a district and with a smaller spatial scope.
