EasyTAG is free software for adding and editing metadata for audio files under GNU / Linux , Windows and macOS . The program is an optional part of many Linux distributions .

GTK + is used for the graphical user interface . Id3lib is used for the ID3 functionality ; in order to support ID3v2.4 in addition to ID3v2.3, libid3tag has also been used since developer version 2.1.1 (from July 4, 2007).

EasyTAG supports:

Depending on the file format used, the track title, artist, album, photo (e.g. album cover), year of publication, track number, music genre, composer, original artist (as with remixes and new dubbing), copyright, website, compression program used and additional comments can be selected individually or in several Files are edited. In addition, EasyTAG can automatically fill in these fields using default settings and self-created input masks and automatically rename files based on their metadata or external text files. In addition, it can display information such as piece length and bit rate and use external metadata sources such as freedb .

The user interface makes it possible to browse files using a tree structure similar to a file manager and to display files specifically selected by artist and album and also offers an undo function for changes to the metadata . Playlists can also be created using EasyTAG.
