Eberhard von Gandersheim
Eberhard von Gandersheim (urkundl. 1204 - 1218 ) was a medieval chronicler of the pin Gandersheim . He is the author of the Low German Gandersheimer rhyme chronicle .
Life
In addition to the rhyming chronicle, Eberhard is documented by two documents he wrote himself from the years 1204 and 1207. He appears as a deacon and notary to the Gandersheim abbess Mechthild I. von Wohldenberg . Eberhard and his work are to be seen in the context of Mechtild's efforts to achieve a position with the Pope directly under the Roman See. Eberhard's presentation of the history and important position of the Gandersheimer Stift in the rhyme chronicle was intended to emphasize this concern.
