Eberhard von Rothkirch
Eberhard von Rothkirch (born August 2, 1852 in Schottgau near Breslau , † December 15, 1911 in Berlin ) was a co-founder of the community movement and chairman of the first YMCA in Germany.
Life
Eberhard von Rothkirch came from a noble Silesian family. He was born as the fourth child of Protestant parents Oskar Siegismund von Rothkirch and Panthen (born May 19, 1821) and Helene von Rosenberg. During his visit to the Knight Academy in Liegnitz , he met Eduard von Pückler . He took part in the Franco-German War as a non-commissioned officer . A serious wound at the Battle of Sedan amputated his right leg and ended his military career. Before leaving, he was promoted to officer and awarded the Iron Cross . He studied forestry in Eberswalde and then worked from 1878 to 1896 as a forest clerk at the Berlin Court Chamber. In 1881 he joined the Sunday school work established by Count Andreas Bernstorff as a helper . On January 22, 1883, he was one of the founders of the first Christian Association of Young Men in Berlin, together with Eduard von Pückler, Andreas Graf von Bernstorff and Christian Phildius , of which he became the first president. Eberhard von Rothkirch was one of the founding members of the community movement in Germany.
