Ebrahim Shah Afshar ( Persian ابراهیم‌شاه Ebrāhim Shah , Arabic إبراهيم شاه الأفشاري Ibrahim Shah al-Afshari ; died 1749 ) was a Shah of Persia from the Afsharid dynastyand ruled only for a short time from 1748 to 1749.

Life

His real name was Mohammad Ali and was the second son of Ebrāhim Chan and nephew of Nadir Shah . When his father died during a campaign in 1739, Mohammad Ali took his name and was called since the Ebrāhim Beg. Ebrāhim was Sardar (commander) of Azerbaijan and defended the empire against the Safavid heir to the throne from Ardabil . After the death of his uncle Nadir Shah, his brother Adil Shah was proclaimed the new Shah in Mashhad in 1747. Ebrāhim stayed in Isfahan and controlled the western areas. But over time, Ebrāhim was suspected by his brother of trying to seize the throne. Ebrāhīm later rebelled against his brother and counted on the help of his cousin Amir Aslan Chan and his troops.

Ebrāhim was able to defeat Adil Shah in a battle in June 1748 and blinded him. Then he defeated Amir Aslan Khan, because he had obviously given no help, and killed him. Ebrāhim occupied Tabriz and was appointed Shah on December 8, 1748. But two months before that, an anti-king was set up in Mashhad with the grandson of Nadir Shah's Shah Ruch . In mid-1749 Ebrāhim set out against his new opponent, but his army broke up near Semnan due to internal conflicts. So he fled to Qom , where he was not accepted. When his last soldiers left him, he was handed over to Shah Ruch. He blinded him and brought him to Mashhad. Ebrāhim died on the way.
