description

Echinocereus triglochidiatus almost always grows abundantly sprouting and often forms cushions that can reach a diameter of over 1 meter and consist of up to 500  shoots . The light green to bluish green, egg-shaped to cylindrical shoots are 5 to 40 centimeters long and have a diameter of 5 to 15 centimeters. There are five to twelve ribs that have a straight edge or are tuberous. The one to four central spines are difficult to distinguish from the radial spines. The up to 22 twisting or flattened, yellow to dark radial spines, which can also be missing, are 1 to 7 centimeters long.

The tubular-funnel-shaped flowers are bright orange-red to dark red and have a white throat. They appear well below the shoot tips and remain open for several days. The flowers are 3 to 9 inches long and 2.5 to 7 inches in diameter. The spherical to obovate fruits are pink or reddish in color. The thorns on them fall off.
