Echinopsis cotacajesi is a species of the genus Echinopsis in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet cotacajesi refers to the occurrence of the species near Cotacajes in the Bolivian province of Ayopaya .

Echinopsis cotacajesi usually grows individually. The spherical, cloudy green shoots reach heights of growth of up to 6.5 centimeters and have a diameter of 7 to 8 centimeters. There are eight to ten rounded ribs that are not notched. The circular areoles on them are dark gray and are up to 1.5 centimeters apart. From them arise needle-like, dark gray thorns . The single, upwardly directed central spine is 1.5 to 2 centimeters long. The seven to ten spread radial spines have a length of 0.5 to 0.8 centimeters.

The funnel-shaped, white flowers appear in the area of ​​the shoot apex. They probably smell and probably open at night. The flowers are up to 11 centimeters long and reach a diameter of 5 centimeters. The spherical fruits have a diameter of 2 to 2.5 centimeters.

Distribution and systematics

Echinopsis cotacajesi is distributed in the Bolivian department of Cochabamba in the province of Ayopaya at altitudes around 2700 meters.
