Echinopsis mirabilis is a species of the genus Echinopsis in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet mirabilis comes from Latin , means 'wonderful' and refers to the appearance of the species.

Echinopsis mirabilis grows individually. The cylindrical, cloudy yellowish green to brown-green shoots reach heights of 12 to 15 centimeters with diameters of up to 2 centimeters. There are eleven ribs that are not very wavy. The single, protruding and straight central spine is 1 to 1.5 centimeters long. The nine to 14 radial spines are slender and straight.

The narrow, tubular, white flowers appear near the shoot tips and have a rather unpleasant smell. They are 11 to 12 inches long. Your bracts are spread out. The fruits reach a diameter of 0.6 to 1 centimeter and are 3.5 to 4 centimeters long.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Echinopsis mirabilis is distributed among shrubs in the lowlands at 500 to 1000 meters in the Argentine provinces of Santiago del Estero , San Juan , La Rioja and Mendoza .

The first description by Carlos Luis Spegazzini was published in 1905.

Nomenclatory synonyms are Setiechinopsis mirabilis (Speg.) De Haas (1940), Arthrocereus mirabilis (Speg.) WTMarshall (1941) and Acanthopetalus mirabilis (Speg.) Y.Itô (1957, incorrect name ICBN -Article 11.4). Setiechinopsis mirabilis var. Gracilior Backeb was included in the species as a synonym . (1963, nom. Invalid ICBN -Article 37.1).

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
