Echinopsis werdermannii is a species of the genus Echinopsis in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet werdermannii honors the German botanist Erich Werdermann .

description

Echinopsis werdermannii grows individually. The spherical, gray-green shoots reach diameters of up to 12 centimeters and heights of up to 8 centimeters. There are ten to twelve straight and sharp-edged ribs . The single black central spine is up to 0.2 inches long. The three to eight radial spines are blackish.

The long tubular, funnel-shaped flowers are light pink in color. The flowers are up to 20 centimeters long.

Distribution and systematics

Echinopsis werdermannii is common in Paraguay .

The first description by Zdenĕk Fleischer was published in 1962. Zdenĕk Fleischer ascribed the name to the Czech Alberto Vojtěch Frič . Echinopsis werdermannii , however, has not been validly published in accordance with Article 8.4 of the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature (nom. Inval.), Since the type specimen on which the first description is based has not been permanently preserved, for example by a herbarium.

Echinopsis werdermannii is closely related to Echinopsis subdenudata or even conspecific.
